Gettysburg Commemorative Poster

After more than 35 years as an image creator, the power and passion of a strong visual image is what compels me to use my camera. Mostly I like simple, subtle elements that work my eye slowly, but persistently. I like how my eye gently consumes an image, progressively filling my heart with more and more stimulating information. I try to create an image that draws you back to it - days, weeks or even years later. Since I see the face of beauty in discarded objects, my compositions are rooted in currents of simple joy and peacefulness. They are a safe haven.

Texture is my palette. Juxtaposed textures are the underlying platform that help me nudge disparate elements into a more cohesive form. Color is both joiner and divider. I like bold, contrasting colors as well as aged, weathered earth tones. Objects that catch my attention are my inspiration. Light helps me persuade and polish the rugged elements that grace my hands for assembly into a visual personality of sorts - a personality meant to both shape and adapt to the energy of the viewer.

My creative process is automatic. It comes from my heart. It is a joyful, peaceful endeavor. My work is intended to gently and playfully touch the hearts of those who view it. If I have one deliberate intent, it is to pass on a fundamental simplicity in my compositions. I am not trying to stimulate your mind so much as your imagination, your sense of humor, even sometimes your sense of safety as you move beyond the perception of daily stress to the open space of visual observation. My expression is not complicated - it is straightforward. I have no hidden agenda except playful contemplation.

I want my images, at least for a moment, to cut your ties to the onslaught of an instant on, instant gone culture made up mostly of impersonal technologies and invisible electrons. My images are my way of recycling worn and discarded objects into a formal presence that catches your eye and sends you on a different, more enjoyable journey....

I have been shooting professionally since 1975. My educational resume is short since I am self taught. My client list, past and present, includes Ciena, Time-Life, the Smithsonian Institution and Sprint. Though I still regularly enjoy crafting images for my clients, my personal passion is my fine art work and the images I compose during my travels.
